Unwound was formed by Rumsey alongside Justin Trosper and Brandt Cardino in 1991 in Olympia, WA with Sara Lund joining on drums in 1992. Their decade-long career saw them release eight albums, all of which were reissued by Numero Group in 2013.

At the time, the name Unwound was new enough that most Olympians still referred to the band by their original moniker, Giant Henry. But since then, with Brandt quitting the band and Sara Lund replacing him, Unwound had tucked two LPs and multiple cross-country tours under its belt. The first set of songs to materialize became 1993's Fake Train, the first Unwound album to actually see release, as well as the first full-length release on Kill Rock Stars , which had been issuing mostly 7"s up until then. Born and raised in Indiana, Sara Lund started drumming at age 11 and playing in bands shortly thereafter. As a teenager she moved to Olympia, Washington and was soon known as one of the “heaviest drummers in town.” She toured and recorded with the rock band Unwound throughout the ’90s and early ’00s, long before women were a staple in rock bands. 2016-09-14 Unwound were an American post-hardcore band, based in Tumwater/Olympia, Washington, United States.
